Visiting Kennedy Space Center

One of the places I had never been to while living in Miami was Kennedy Space Center, but a few weeks ago that’s exactly where I went with my family and a couple of friends that were visiting us.

We had spent the saturday at Walt Disney World’s Epcot, for the Food and Wine Festival, so on Sunday we decided to have breakfast in Orlando and then head to Kennedy Space Center. By the time we arrived, it was already 1pm, so we knew we didn’t have much time.

We started the visit at the Rocket Garden…

Then we went to the IMAX theatre to watch a movie about the telescope Hubble and its repair missions. Seriously, space is so cool!

After that we went to one of the highlights of our visit: the bus tour to the launch pads, including the one from Apollo 11 left. The bus tour takes about 40 minutes and you will not leave the bus. But you will see some amazing sights:

After 40 minutes on the tour bus, we stopped at the Apollo Saturn V Center:

We saw some exhibits and a real rocket:

Then, we took the bus back and headed to the Space Shuttle Atlantis pavilion. As we enter, we wait in a room where there is this nice movie on the ceiling and walls and in front of us and then when it’s done, you see a “starred sky” and the the black background turns into Atlantis. It was so cool!

The experience was fantastic and we totally recommend it. We wish we had arrived earlier as there were opportunities to meet and greet a real astronaut and there was an Angry Birds area that we got to experience a little.

It is a great road trip from Miami or Orlando and a great way to wonder when we will be able to travel as tourists to the ultimate frontier.
