Thalys from Amsterdam to Brussels

Train travel is always fun and when you have the chance to do it in style, you should take it! When we booked our trip on a Thalys train from Amsterdam to Brussels we got a deal and booked it First Class. And we had no idea what was in store for us.

When I said we had no idea, we really didn’t. We thought the only First Class thing we were going to get would be bigger seats and more air conditioning, so we decided to buy some cheeses and wine for our dinner, before hopping on the train.

So the beautiful Thalys arrived and we took our seats. They were bigger and comfy.

Seat configuration was 2 and 1 seat and there were some of them facing each other with a table in the middle

Different from City Night Line, wi-fi was available on board, which was cool but it took so long to find the network and connect that we decided go the old fashioned way and have a conversation, play games and make fun of each other 🙂

Then, we were surprised to see the train stewardess coming by and handing over some refreshing towelettes. She looked surprised when she saw our cheese bowls and we were also surprised because we thought we were not going to have anything served for us.

And then it all came together: the First Class ticket on a Thalys train (at least in the journey we took) included an amazing meal. Restaurant quality amazing!

There were choices between vegetarian and no vegetarian, but there was not a kids meal option.

I went for the vegetarian meal:

Couscous with vinaigrette and an amazing pate-like thing, cheese slices, bread, oranges... yum!

And my husband and daughter went for the non-vegetarian option:

Ham, potato salad, mashed carrots, cheese slices, bread and oranges...

Everything was accompanied by a drink of your choice: beer, wine, soft drinks. And coffee or tea was served after.

Then, when you think you have no more room, they come and bring a fantastic mini waffle:

When we were ready to take a nap, we arrived in Brussels Midi. It was an amazing experience that taught us to go for the First Class option (especially if you’re traveling at night and with kids) whenever we are traveling on a Thalys train.

And of course, make sure to book in advance so that you can enjoy the very nice deals where your First Class ticket will cost just as much as the cheapest one.
